- This will be Belgium's first-ever game in the United States. The teams most recently met in a friendly in Brussels on Sep. 6, 2011, which Belgium won 1-0.
- This is the first in a five-game series of games for the USA. The team faces Germany in a friendly on Sunday, before embarking on World Cup qualifiers against Jamaica, Panama, and Honduras.
- The U.S. roster will be shorthanded, after Maurice Edu and Corey Ashe withdrew because of injuries, while Brek Shea headed to Dallas for treatment on his right calf strain. Edgar Castillo, Joe Corona, Fabian Johnson, Danny Williams, and Michael Bradley will all join the roster after this game due to club commitments.
- Belgium will also have a depleted roster, as Nicolas Lombaerts, Axel Witsel, Nacer Chadli, and Eden Hazard (injury) went back home, while Vincent Kompany and Christian Benteke will likely sit with injuries.
